Smart Plug Basics

This article will cover certain devices and small electronics that you can and CANNOT plug into your smart plug. With a smart plug, you can use the SmartRent app to set schedules and automate lighting, coffee makers, fans or other electronic devices. You should not use the plug with devices that consume more than 200 watts or exceed 10 amps. 

What you can plug into your smart plug:

  • Fans under 200 watts
  • Small coffee pots
  • Humidifiers
  • Lamps
  • Holiday lights

What you should NOT plug into your smart plug:

  • The Hub 
  • Surge protectors/power strips
  • Electronics such as TVs and computers
  • Personal heaters or space heaters
  • Any devices that consume more than 200 watts or exceed 10 amps

Note: Always use your smart in accordance with applicable instructions.  Smart plugs are for indoor use only. Before use, you will need to contact us to pair your plug to your hub.
