From new hires to exciting acquisitions and sought-after product updates, 2022 was a great year for SmartRent. Here are some highlights from the past year.
Evolving our products and solutions
This year, we introduced several major updates to our ecosystem to help us stay ahead of customer expectations.
We introduced Fusion, a Z-wave touchscreen hub that connects SmartRent devices. Fusion gives clients an upscale alternative to our basic Alloy Hub.
Student housing clients are now able to assign locks to bedrooms and set parameters for energy usage.
Our updated Resident App SmartRent 3.0 offers enhanced navigation and in-app onboarding and support. Users no longer need to leave the site to troubleshoot or finalize onboarding.
Site teams can now set variable rates for guest parking based on session duration, space, and section, as well as set maximum daily rates and free parking hours for guests.
This year also saw a lot of relationship-building on the partnerships and integrations side. As we close out 2022, we are delighted to support more than a dozen additional hardware providers, making it easier for clients to onboard our system using their pre-existing infrastructure. Additionally, we welcomed SVN | SFR Capital Management to our network of partners in December.
Exciting acquisitions
It’s been a notable year for SmartRent acquisitions.
In January, we acquired iQuue, an open-architecture smart apartment company with more than 22,000 installed and committed units throughout the east coast. With this acquisition, we successfully built upon our southeastern presence and added 19 new customers to our base.
Then, in March, we acquired SightPlan, an innovative real estate operating platform that automates communications, resident engagement, field services and maintenance workflow, inspections, due diligence, and audit management. SightPlan is used at nearly 6,000 properties belonging to more than 160 real estate owners nationwide.
Expanding our teams
In addition to the iQuue and SightPlan acquisitions, we’ve also added 206 new hires to our workforce.
Among these new hires are several key decision-makers:
Brian Roberts as Chief Legal Officer in January
Terry Danner as Executive Vice President of Sales in July
Hiroshi Okamoto as Chief Financial Officer in May
Robyn Young as Chief Marketing Officer in May
With so many talented people on the SmartRent team, we can't wait to see what goals we’ll accomplish together in 2023.
Awards and accolades
In 2022, we were recognized in three publications for our growing market influence:
Included in the HousingWire Tech 100 for the second consecutive year.
Named in a list of 101 Best Arizona Information Technology Companies and Startups.
Joined the ranks of other promising startup businesses with our mention in the Emerging Startups 2022: Top Property Management Tech Startups list.
SmartRent was also invited to speak with Salesforce about how we use Salesforce CRM to achieve success. Check out the case study here!
A bevy of national events
It was a standout year for event participation, with the SmartRent and SightPlan teams attending 108 events. From coast to coast, the SmartRent team made countless new connections at major industry events such as NAA Apartmentalize and NMHC OPTECH.
We even hosted a sales kick-off meeting, bringing together our sales and marketing team members in Phoenix. In addition to best-in-class sales training and goal-setting sessions, employees celebrated one another's successes from the year.
SmartRent gives back
In July, the SmartRent, SightPlan, and iQuue teams collected 112 cases and 34 gallons of bottled water to benefit several charities in Phoenix and Orlando: Circle the City, Up Orlando, the Knights Pantry, and Christian Service Center.
This October, we organized a t-shirt fundraiser to benefit METAvivor. We’re proud to have raised $1,500 to support people living with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer.
SmartRent also sponsored the 2022 Arizona Multihousing Association's Big Hearts Charity Week Competition. Since 2005, this event has helped raise over $1.2 million to support charities across the state. The benefactors of this year’s event included UMOM New Day Centers, Southwest Autism Research & Resource Center, Resident Relief Foundation, and the Julie Hurst & Steve Peters Education Fund.
